Funding

Resources for funding are available through a variety of sources. Since these opportunities change frequently we have provided the following websites which are updated regularly and provide a "one-stop-shop" for the most comprehensive, up-to-date funding sources and funding opportunities available:

Pennsylvania Funding Sources:

Listserves

Listserves provide an efficient way of connecting to current information and to other practitioners. In many cases, one can simply type in a listserve address to an e-mail message, ask the question or solicit the information you seek and within the day you may receive the answer to your question. Many who use listserves find them to be a means to receive the most up-to-date information for managing a species. As mentioned earlier (Species Management and Control - Introduction), the control information included in this tutorial is based on information made available mainly through existing publications, some of which are out-of-date. Listserves, therefore, can be a tool for you to use to keep up-to-date on invasive plant management information.

Some of the listserves that focus on invasive plants in PA, the Mid-Atlantic region and the U.S. and serve as a means of accessing information most applicable to PA land managers include:

  • Mid-Atlantic Exotic Pest Plant Council - send a blank email to ma-eppc-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
  • Pennsylvania Biodiversity Partnership - sign up through the PBP website at www.pabiodiversity.org
  • Natural Areas Association - send a blank email to naturalareasassociation-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
  • Delaware River Invasive Plant Partnership - send a blank email to DRIPP-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
  • The Nature Conservancy's Invasive Species Initiative -contact Barry Rice at bamrice@ucdavis.edu. Provide the following information: 1) name 2) state & country you wish to be identified with (i.e. where do you do most of your work?) 3) Are you a TNC employee (not a requirement for participating in the listserve).
  • IUCN - aliens listserve - send the message "subscribe Aliens-l" to listadmin@indaba.iucn.org).
  • Plant Conservation Alliance's Alien Plant Working Group List - Send an e-mail to apwg-request@lists.plantconservation.org with the following information in the body of the message (not the subject): SUBSCRIBE. You will then receive an e-mail that you will need to reply to in order to confirm your subscription. After you confirm your subscription, another e-mail will be sent with instructions on how to use the list.

Partners

The following is a list of entities both within Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region who may serve as potential partners in invasive plant management, education, funding efforts, etc.. These entities are involved, in some way, with addressing invasive plant issues in the state. This is by no means an exclusive list and there are likely omissions. Websites for these agencies, organizations, institutions may provide additional information on potential partners and additional resources.

For a reference on the importance of collaborations and partnerships, see the following publication: U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), Report to the Chairman, Committee on Resources, House of Representatives, INVASIVE SPECIES Cooperation and Coordination Are Important for Effective Management of Invasive Weeds, http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d05185.pdf
