Description

North Shore Riverfront Park Allegheny This project involved the complete redesign and rehabilitation of a 6700 foot segment of linear park and trail facilities along the north shore of the Allegheny and Ohio Rivers. The project area was primarily designed in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s as Clemente Park.
Great Allegheny Valley Passage Allegheny The Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) is a 150-mile trail between Pittsburgh, PA and Cumberland MD, where it joins the 184-mile C & O Canal Towpath, extending the off-road experience all the way to Washington, DC.
Brownsburg and Lookout Parks Bucks The Master Site Plan recommended the development of soccer fields, lacrosse field, pavilion, basketball courts, trail system, loop road, wetland infiltration basin, tennis courts and tot lot on the 37.6 acre Township park property located along the Delaware River.
Special Kids Zone Playground Butler In the spring of 2002 the Butler County Parks and Recreation Department was contacted by Mr. Richard Musko, President of the A.M. Rotary Club of Butler in regards to the development of fully accessible playground within the County as part of its commitment to a community service project.
Ghost Town Trail Cambria The Ghost Town Trail is a 36 mile trail network that runs throughout Cambria and Indiana Counties. The trail was originally established in 1991 when Kovalchick Salvage Company donated 12 miles of the former Ebensburg and Blacklick Railroad to Indiana County.
PSU Whitehall Road Acquisition Centre The Centre Region Council of Governments (COG) received a $159,000 DCNR grant in 2006 to use toward the acquisition of approximately 75 acres south of Whitehall Road and Blue Course Drive, in Ferguson Township, Centre County, for active and passive recreation.
Paradise Farms Easment Chester Natural Lands Trust, in partnership with East Bradford Township, was awarded a $400,000 DCNR Growing Greener grant to purchase a Conservation Easement on 360 acres of the Children’s Country Week Association’s 580-acre Paradise Farm Property in Chester County.
Reiff Tract Acquisition Chester East Vincent Township received an $800,000 DCNR Keystone grant to support its acquisition of a 36.5 acre parcel of the former Reiff Farm to be reused as a township park and natural open space area.
Foxburg to Parker Rail-Trail Gap Acquisition Clarion This acquisition completes the Foxburg to Parker Rail Trail, which runs along the Allegheny River between Franklin and Emlenton.
River Walk Clinton With the assistance from DCNR Keystone funding, the Lock Haven Flood Protection Authority recently constructed a City Beach Overlook, which provides a scenic vista for river watchers along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Situated adjacent to a paved 2.25-mile pedestrian river walk, the overlook has become a favorite activity center for City residents of all ages who wish to take a few moments to relax after a long walk or jog.
Fishing Creek Nature Park - Phase II Columbia The park sits at the lowest point on Fishing Creek that is currently stocked by the PA Fish & Boat Commission. This provides an excellent angling experience for disadvantaged residents and young children.
Ice House Park Crawford Conneaut Lake is the largest natural, inland lake in Pennsylvania. The park, which will be built at the south end of the lake, will protect the view of Conneaut Lake from the east entrance into town.
Open Space Preservation Plan Cumberland Recognizing the importance of such a study, DCNR awarded the County $93,000 in Keystone Grant Funding to produce what is known today as “Land Partnerships”- Cumberland County’s Open Space Preservation and Smart Growth Plan.
Capital Area Greenbelt Dauphin The Capital Area Greenbelt is a trail that circles the city of Harrisburg which connects Riverfront Park, Cameron Parkway, Paxtang Park, Paxtang Parkway, and Reservoir Park, the grounds of the State Hospital, Harrisburg Area Community College, and Wildwood Lake. This “jewel necklace” rings around Pennsylvania's capital city, is designed to provide its visitors an opportunity to hike, ride bicycles, skate, jog, walk their dog, practice up on flora and fauna identification and generally appreciate nature.
Darby Creek Greenway Delaware The Darby Creek Watershed Conservation Plan conducted throughout 2000-2002 defined a “ribbon of green” vision for the Darby Creek watershed that would restore stream corridors, provide riparian buffers, increase open space and recreational opportunities, educate residents and foster inter-municipal cooperation on a watershed basis.
Community Park Elk The goal for this multi-phase community park project was to provide recreation within the beauty of nature.
Community Park Fayette This trail will link all of the recreational facilities of the park and perhaps most importantly, it will allow ADA access to all of the parks amenities.
Palmer Athletic Complex Fulton Recognizing this deficiency, in 2000 the Southern Fulton School District commissioned a private consulting firm to determine the feasibility of developing a sports complex. The facility would be used for educational, athletic and community activities and would contain the first regulation intermediate baseball and softball fields in the entire school district.
Boat Docks Greene The site has a large asphalt paved area that has a bandstand, storage shed and restrooms. There is also a large picnic pavilion in the vicinity, all owned by the Borough. Because of monetary constraints, they decided to phase the project. Phase I included docks to accommodate six boats along the existing lock wall.
Borough Park Huntingdon As a native of Alexandria Borough, Mayor Gorsuch recognized the need for his community to replace the antiquated and unsafe playground equipment in the Borough’s only park. Furthermore, he recognized the need to provide young residents with a safe place to play that was within walking distance of home. The Mayor wanted to ensure that children did not to travel to neighboring Porter Township just to have a safe place to play.
Rock Point Acquisition Lawrence Rock Point is important geographically because of the confluence of the two waterways. In addition, Rock Point has historical significance due to its former life as an amusement park at the turn of the 20th century, as well as the importance of the BDA area
Lawrence County Greenway and Open Space Plan Lawrence The plan calls for the preservation and reclamation of natural floodplains to enhance water quality, and protect wildlife habitat and open space.
Greater Hazleton Area Rail-Trail Luzerne Preparation of a Master Site Development Plan for the Greater Hazleton Rail Trail. When completed the Trail will connect the City of Hazleton with the 180 mile D&L trail.
Williamsport City Parks Master Site Plan Lycoming Williamsport is an urban center that is situated along the Susquehanna River, and this project is helpful in achieving the DCNR goal of building and maintaining sustainable and attractive communities and the Keystone Principle of reinvesting in urban centers.
Regional Open Space: Recreation Plans Monroe Through the plans supported by Keystone Funding, hundreds of acres of land were identified and have been preserved, a new ten-mile trail system is currently being developed, and two new 150+ acre regional parks are being developed.
Resica Falls Conservation Easement-Phase 3 Monroe In 2006, DCNR provided a $1 million Growing Greener 2 grant to place a conservation easement placed on 1,000 acres. The easement will ensure that this vast, pristine and important natural area will remain forever protected from development.
Schuylkill River Trail Improvements Project Montgomery The Schuylkill River Trail is a heavily-used 22 mile regional trail that links Valley Forge National Historical Park in Montgomery County to Center City Philadelphia, along both the tidal and upper reaches of the Schuylkill River. Well over 400,000 users make use of the trail annually.
Minersville Community Swimming Pool Schuylkill The pool has long been an important piece of the Minersville community fourth street recreation complex. The complex is a beautiful nine acre multi use recreation facility that includes three baseball fields, an outdoor pavilion, playground, soccer field, basketball court and a half mile asphalt walking path with a pine tree canopy extending over much of the trail.
Lewisburg Area Recreational Park Union Lewisburg Area Recreation Authority (LARA) is a regional recreation authority serving Lewisburg Borough and East Buffalo Township in Union County. With assistance from Keystone funding, LARA was developed through DCNR’s Peer to Peer and Circuit Rider Program.
JPG Park Westmoreland In the spring of 2001, several members of a small village of Lowber, located within Sewickley Township, began to discuss and recognize the need to provide recreational opportunities to the residents that lived in the close knit village. Working with the Township Supervisors and a local business that is located in the community, plans began to renovate and improve the veteran’s wall and design and develop a playground area and passive area for the community to enjoy.
Camp Lackawann Easement Wyoming The Vosburg neck property is made up of 1000 acres of land adjacent to the North Branch of the Susquehanna river. The river winds around the 1000 acre parcel and narrows at the entrance to the property creating a narrow strip of land on the west side of the river that provides access.
