What is TreeVitalize?
TreeVitalize is a public-private partnership established by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) to restore tree cover in Pennsylvania communities. The program was established in 2004 following two influential research reports showing that urban tree canopy in Pennsylvania had decreased significantly.
TreeVitalize began as a grant program for communities to plant trees and has grown to encompass much more. TreeVitalize covers a broad range of urban and community forestry areas including:
· Urban tree inventories
· Public education
· Tree ordinance support
· Urban wood utilization
· Urban tree mortality monitoring
TreeVitalize’s mission is to help restore tree cover, educate citizens about planting trees as an act of caring for our environment and build capacity among local governments to understand, protect and restore their urban trees.
