From the Woods is a publications series produced by Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences-School of Forest Resources with support from the U.S. Forest Service, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry and other agencies and organizations. Its purpose is to educate middle and high school youth about natural resources including forestry, wildlife, and water. Printed copies of these publications are available through Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences publications office. The publications provide a basis for natural resources education in the classroom.

To assist teachers in the use of the From the Woods series, lesson plans, and pre/post test experience examples have been developed for each publication. The educational effectiveness of the publication can be evaluated through the use of one of two pre- and post-experiences designed especially for youth. You can download pre/post tests and other resources from the Sustainable Forestry Teacher Resource Center.
