The Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, in cooperation
with the U.S. Forest Service, has been providing specialized crews and
single resources for wildland firefighting across the country since 1973.
2008 - Resources were dispatched from February to September, with a peak of activity in August.
- 6 Type 2 crews (20 firefighters per crew) were deployed
- 40 single resources were deployed
- In February, single resources were sent to Virginia.
- Resources were sent to northern California and the Pacific north-west in July and August
- Single resources were sent to the south to aid in hurricane recovery in September.
Summer 2007 - Resources were dispatched from March to October, with a peak of activity in August.
- 7 Type 2 crews (20 firefighters per crew) were deployed
- 55 single resources were deployed
- Resources were deployed to 14 states, including Alabama, California, Georgia, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, North Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming
Summer 2006 - A very busy summer for Pennsylvania crews
- 7 Type 2 crews (20 firefighters per crew) were deployed to several
states
- 2 Type 2 Initial Attack crews (20 firefighters per crew) were deployed
- 50 single resources were deployed to several states
- Helped fill out a Delaware State Crew with 4 firefighters
Spring 2006
- This spring fire season saw the formation of three Type 3 Incident
Management Teams in Pennsylvania.
- Type 3 teams are used for larger wildfires requiring extended attack.
- This marks the first time the PA Bureau of Forestry has assembled
Type 3 teams.
August 2005 - Pennsylvania deployed crews and single
resources to:
- Crew 1 (20 firefighters) sent to the Camp 32 fire in Montana, just
west of Glacier National Park.
- Single Resource - Division / Group Supervisor Trainee at the School
fire in Oregon.
- Single Resource - Communications Technician, member of the Incident
Management Team assigned to the I-90 fire in Montana.
- Single Resource - Overhead position in resource management at the
National Interagency Coordination Center in Boise, Idaho.
- Single Resource - Overhead position in supply at the Alpine Lake fire
in Montana.
- Single Resource - Single Engine Air Tanker Manager Trainee for an
airbase in Nevada.
August, 2004 - Pennsylvania deployed crews and single
resources to:
- Crew 1 - Placerville, California - El Dorado National Forest
- Single Resource - Tok, Alaska
- Single Resource - Idaho
