State Forest Road Advisory and Closures
Many State Forest roads in the Mill Creek, Masten, and Wallis Run blocks (between State Route 87 and State Route 14) were heavily damaged from the recent flooding and are impassable. Bridges and entire sections of road have been washed out, making lease camps, campsites, and hiking destinations inaccessible by motor vehicle. While we continue to assess the damage, make minor repairs, and provide for visitor safety, we are asking the public to use extreme caution when traveling the roads in this area, reduce speed, and obey all traffic signage. Updates will be posted here when possible or you may contact the Resource Management Center in Laporte at 570-946-4049, M-F, 8:00 am-4:00 pm. The Hillsgrove Maintenance Headquarters is staffed on various days and times, 570-924-3501. Click here for a map showing the currently closed roads.

Loyalsock Trail Detour
The Loyalsock Trail on Rock Run Road over Loyalsock Creek (Forks Twp./Sullivan County) is currently detoured for a bridge renovation project. Hikers will need to utilize the Link Trail system or ford Loyalsock Creek to navigate around the bridge closure. Work on the historical iron truss bridge over the Loyalsock Creek on Rock Run Road at CCC Camp 95 began in October of 2015. Some repairs, including new decking, were completed. The bridge remains closed for an undetermined amount of time. See Rock Run Road under Road Closures for more details.
Before traveling visitors should contact the Resource Management Center for updates at 570-946-4049 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Flood Damaged Area (Lycoming and Sullivan Counties)
Click here for a map of the flood damaged area and roads that are closed to motor vehicles. Pleasant Stream Road is closed. Walker Road is closed. Mill Creek Road is closed from the Twin Creeks bridge to the west. Big Hollow Road is closed from Mill Creek Road west to Gooseberry Haul Road. Upper Camels Road is closed from Deer Trail to the west. Hillsgrove Road is closed for the last quarter mile on the Masten end, and from the Old Logger's Path crossing to the east. Some township roads used to access the Loyalsock State Forest in this area are also closed. The upper portion of Pleasant Stream Road in McIntyre Twp. is closed except to local traffic. Masten Road in McNett Twp. is closed from the quarry down into Masten. Hoagland Branch Road in Fox Twp. from Elk Creek north is closed. Dry Run Road in Fox Twp. is closed from Bear Wallow State Forest Road down to the Hoagland Branch Road.
Rock Run Road (Sullivan Co.) - The historic iron through-truss bridge on Rock Run Road over the Loyalsock Creek in the Loyalsock State Forest is closed for an undetermined amount of time. Lycoming Supply was contracted to perform remediation work on the bridge abutments and to replace the aged wooden decking in October of 2015. Upon removing the old wooden deck, it was found that there was an unsatisfactory amount of deterioration on some critical bridge components that was not discovered during the most recent inspection. Being an historic bridge, there are limitations on what types of repairs can be made in order to ensure its historical integrity. Lycoming Supply and the DCNR Bureau of Facilities Design and Construction are working on some solutions to the problem. Upon approval, the repairs will continue. Forest users will need to access that portion of the Loyalsock State Forest from PA Route 87 and Rock Run Road (Forks Township) or from PA Route 154 and Loyalsock Road, just west of Worlds End State Park. For more information please contact the Loyalsock State Forest Resource Management Center at 570-946-4049.
Unplanned road closures for maintenance activities and weather emergencies can occur throughout the year, so calling in advance of your visit to the Loyalsock State Forest is always a good idea. Other road maintenance projects which don’t require a road closure, also occur throughout the year. For your safety and the safety of our workers, please observe and obey traffic signage.
Don't Move Firewood
To help protect the forest from invasive insects that can kill trees and devastate the ecosystem, please do not transport firewood over long distances. Firewood can harbor insects such as emerald ash borer. Cut or purchase your firewood where you intend to burn it.
