Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment. www.geocaching.com
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) encourages responsible geocaching as a great way to explore and experience the outdoors.
Responsible geocaching is using common sense and common courtesy while geocaching, so that what is available today will be here to enjoy tomorrow. See the links below that include “Best Practices” and the “Other geo-info” links for more information.
Want to learn how to geocache? Many geocaching programs are offered in our Pennsylvania State Parks throughout the year. Here's a listing of all future GPS/Geocaching programs offered by DCNR.
