Hike For Health

Riverview Park

With its 251 acres and miles of trails, Riverview Park offers a chance to explore the outdoors within the city limits. Paths with varying degrees of difficulty ensure that visitors see a wide variety of habitats and interesting sights. The Wissahickon Road, for instance, passes through the Wissahickon Nature Center and takes hikers past a gigantic 200-year-old oak tree. For those who want to see the more wild and scenic natural beauty and get a real taste of being in the wilderness, try the Snyder’s Point Loop, which follows one of the most prominent ridges in the park. Kilbuck Trail is not only a great place to access the park from the North Side, but is also a great paved biking path and leads travelers past the Valley Refuge Center, a beautiful old stone shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. If you want to challenge your hiking skills, the Ground Hog Haven Trail offers hikers a steep, marshy climb. Riverview Park not only boasts numerous hiking trails, but also includes a large swimming pool, tennis courts, a ball field, several playgrounds, picnic areas, and perhaps its most unique and well-known feature-the Allegheny Observatory.

* Once printed, the sheet of paper is designed to be folded twice.
(Therefore, the upper left-hand quarter will appear "upside down" on your screen.)

  • With printed side facing up, fold sheet "long-ways" (along the map) so that the printing faces "out" on both sides (and resulting in a sheet about 4.25"x11")
  • Fold in half again, so that the large photo faces "out" (the finished product should now be about 4.25"x5.5")
