Hike For Health

Mt. Davis Natural Area

Climbing the highest point in Pennsylvania is made easy by a series of trails located in Forbes State Forest, atop Negro Mountain. By starting your hike at the Mt. Davis Picnic Area on the High Point Trail, you can hike less than a mile and you are at the summit ? Mt. Davis ? 3,213 feet above sea level. A tower stands on the top of the peak, and on a clear day hikers can see parts of Maryland as well as the town of Salisbury. Unusual circular patterns of stone, formed by frost action over thousands of years, occur at the base of the tower. By taking the Shelter Rock Trail and Road, you'll complete a three-mile loop that takes you over moderately easy and varied terrain.

* Once printed, the sheet of paper is designed to be folded twice.
(Therefore, the upper left-hand quarter will appear "upside down" on your screen.)

  • With printed side facing up, fold sheet "long-ways" (along the map) so that the printing faces "out" on both sides (and resulting in a sheet about 4.25"x11")
  • Fold in half again, so that the large photo faces "out" (the finished product should now be about 4.25"x5.5")
