In 2003, DCNR leadership had meetings and discussions with nearly 1,800 staff and stakeholders, to help develop an action plan that builds on the agency's strong foundation and pushes toward the future like never before.
This action plan is the result of an extensive process that would not have been possible without the work and contributions of many people:
- staff from every bureau and level throughout the state who attended meetings and contributed to writing, review and feedback; and
- citizens, government officials, legislators and representatives of some 100+ organizations and sister agencies who attended meetings and gave of their time and talents to help us craft a series of meaningful documents.
DCNR has a core responsibility to its historic mission, which is to protect and enhance the resources entrusted to us. It also has tremendous opportunity to broaden its mission: reach more people with its programs and expertise; promote tourism and economic growth; help to build livable communities; and improve quality of life for our citizens.
The conversations with staff and stakeholders helped to identify and clarify key emerging themes and priorities for the agency’s broader mission. These themes and priorities are reflected in this comprehensive action plan. This action plan is DCNR's blueprint for success.
