Pennsylvania Wind and Wildlife Collaborative

Collaborative Process

Representatives of the wind industry, Federal and Pennsylvania wildlife officials, and wildlife conservation organizations have agreed to work together to in a collaborative, consensus-based process to collect, share, review, and use the best available science, data, and professional expertise to address how best to assist in the development of wind energy in Pennsylvania in an environmentally responsible manner. Using a consensus-based approach, the Collaborative seeks to develop a set of Pennsylvania-specific principles, policies, best management practices, guidelines, and tools that can be used to assess risk to habitat and wildlife from wind power development, and to mitigate for the impact of that development.

The structure of the collaborative will consist of the establishment of a policy group to develop the effort’s framework and principles, and a science group to provide necessary technical support. The collaborative also will be informed by various state and regional initiatives and workshops.
