NEW PARK MANAGER NAMED TO THREE STATE PARKS

HARRISBURG (Jan. 22, 1997) -- The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Bureau of State Parks has appointed a new park manager for three state parks located along the Susquehanna River in central Pennsylvania.

Mary Gatski of Sunbury will oversee operations of Shikellamy State Park, Union and Northumberland counties; Susquehanna State Park, Lycoming County; and Milton State Park, Northumberland County. Gatski was previously the assistant park manager with the three parks. She replaces Stanley Rohrbach who recently retired after serving as manager of the three parks since 1982.

"Mary has demonstrated in her state park career she has the experience and skills needed to be an outstanding park manager," said John Plonski, DCNR's executive deputy secretary for parks and forestry.

As park manager, Gatski will oversee and direct all facets of the park operations and the maintenance of the three parks. She also manages a staff of five full-time employees plus seasonal workers and volunteers.

In her state park career, Gatski served as park manager of Fort Washington State Park, Montgomery County, for one year; environmental specialist at Beltzville State Park, Carbon County; and intern for Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center, Northampton County, for more than a year.

The 132-acre Shikellamy State Park offers a variety of activities including picnicking; hiking; bicycling; boating; and fishing.

Milton State Park is a day-use area which provides picnic facilities, hiking trails, a play area and soccer fields.

Much of Susquehanna State Park is operated under a lease agreement by the group that runs the Hinwatha tour boat.
