Cross-country Skiing

Northeast Pennsylvania Mountains

The Pocono Mountains and Endless Mountains abound in natural wonders. The Glens Natural Area in Ricketts Glen State Park has 22 named waterfalls in a scenic gorge with old growth timber. You can also try whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River. Boulder Field in Hickory Run State Park is a National Natural Landmark. There are dozens of scenic overlooks and miles of hiking trails and trout streams. Renowned for honeymoons, it is a great place for a family vacation.

Northeast Pennsylvania Mountains

Beltzville

Many open and rolling fields and nine miles of trail are suitable for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Hickory Run

The 13 miles of designated trail are marked with blue blazes.

Gouldsboro

Most of the hiking trails are recommended for cross-country skiing.

Lackawanna

All trails can be cross-country skied, although Frost Hollow, Lakeview and most trails in the campground and picnicking areas are recommended.

Lehigh Gorge

The Lehigh Gorge Trail on the west side of the river from White Haven to Glen Onoko is open to cross-country skiing.

Mt. Pisgah

Most of the hiking trails are recommended for cross-country skiing.

Nescopeck

This popular winter sport is permitted on all trails throughout the park. The ungroomed trails are relatively flat or have slight grades making this a great way to explore the park during winter.

Promised Land

Skiing and snowshoeing are permitted on all trails. Bruce Lake Natural Area and Conservation Island are the best trails for skiing.

Ricketts Glen

Cross-country skiing is permitted.

Salt Springs

All trails in the park are well suited for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Tobyhanna

Most of the hiking trails are recommended for cross-country skiing.

Worlds End

Several park areas are suitable for Nordic skiing. A 20-mile trail network is close by on state forest land.
