Finding Information on an Oil and Gas Well on Your Property

One of our most frequent requests regards whether the Pennsylvania Geological Survey has location, geology, and/or production information for one or more wells situated on an individual’s property.

If you’d like to find out how to obtain this kind of information for an oil or gas well on your land, please gather as much of the following information as possible about your site:

  1. county
  2. municipality
  3. property address
  4. local landmarks (route numbers, cities, or other features that would appear on a topographic map), particularly if you’re interested in a rural area; and
  5. if known, the farm name, lease number, type of well, and/or well depth.

Then, visit our Pittsburgh Regional Office, call us at 412–442–4235, or email Katherine Schmid to place your service request.

Once we receive your request, one of our staff geologists will research our PA*IRIS/WIS and available reports and maps to determine whether we have well records on file that meet your needs.  Examples of the kind of information we may be able to provide include copies of well completion reports, location maps, and production summary data.
