USGS Publications
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has published numerous geologic folios and bulletins over the years that describe the topographic, geologic, and mineral resource characteristics of different parts of the United States. Figure 1 summarizes those areas of Western Pennsylvania for which the Pennsylvania Geologic Survey has a USGS geologic folio on file, many of which deal with oil and gas resources in particular. These folios are based on 15-minute quadrangle study areas (shown in light blue below).
