USGS Publications

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has published numerous geologic folios and bulletins over the years that describe the topographic, geologic, and mineral resource characteristics of different parts of the United States.  Figure 1 summarizes those areas of Western Pennsylvania for which the Pennsylvania Geologic Survey has a USGS geologic folio on file, many of which deal with oil and gas resources in particular.  These folios are based on 15-minute quadrangle study areas (shown in light blue below).

Table 1 provides a complete listing of these USGS folios by publication number.

Figure 2 shows those areas of Western Pennsylvania for which the Pennsylvania Geological Survey has a USGS Bulletin on file (shown in pale red below).

These USGS folios and bulletins are available for review at the Pittsburgh office of the Pennsylvania Geological Survey.  USGS publications covering other parts of Pennsylvania and other states are available for review at the Middletown office.
