Heritage Geology Sites

Locations of PNHP sites and scenic geologic features under review for inclusion in PNHP.

Locations of PNHP sites (red stars) in Pennsylvania. Triangles indicate sites under review for inclusion.

There are 101 sites in the PNHP database. Ultimately, many of the 514 features described in two published volumes, Outstanding Scenic Geologic Features of Pennsylvania, Environmental Geology (EG) Report 7 (out of print) and EG Report 7, Part 2, will be included in the PNHP list. Part 1 is out of print but may be seen in libraries. To obtain a copy of EG Report 7, Part 2, go to our list of Environmental Geology Publications for cost and ordering instructions. To find the nearest repository library, please see our list of Repository Libraries.

Two of the 101 sites are now considered "extinct." The Port Kennedy Bone Cave in Montgomery County was filled in many years ago, and the Swatara Gap fossil site was covered over in the process of bridge construction.
